One of the main reasons I went to Bangkok was to see and ride an elephant. Elephants look like they are really one with the earth they tread on. As much as I want to see them in the wild, seeing them in reserves had to do… for now.
Elephants play a huge role in Thailand’s history. In the Samphran grounds, they hold a short skit showcasing what elephants are capable of and how they are a big help. You can also ride with them and feed them with bananas. If you’re lucky, they’ll even give you a hug! And believe me, being hugged by an elephant is one of the most wonderful experiences in the world.
I always had mixed emotions about seeing wild animals trained and domesticated. It’s a shame that they are not in their natural habitat anymore but it’s good to see them living harmoniously with humans.
They say elephants never forget. I hope this helps us remember to always be kind (not just to them but to everyone) so that the only thing that will be remembered is kindness and love.
